Intelligence report warns of ‘Hegde Nagar’- like violence

BENGALURU:

It seems the civic officials have not learnt a lesson from the Hegde Nagar incident where Asha workers were assaulted by miscreants.

Sources told thebengalurulive that BBMP, which has begun a door-to-door health survey in all 198 wards, has not contacted the police brass at any level seeking protection for the health staff.

The survey will gather data on  individuals with ILI/SARI and other serious health problems. A Health Survey Team (HST) team consisting of  booth-level officers and staff from government/private/ BBMP schools will cover all households in the 198 wards.

Communal suspicions
The team began its survey from Thursday but areas like Pulakeshi Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, DJ Halli and Frazer Town could pose a problem because of communal misperceptions.

Some WhatsApp messages in these areas are suggesting that “in the name of collecting health data, they (Asha workers) may extract other data. Hence we need not co-operate with them.”

A source said an intelligence report has suggested that a Hegde Nagar kind of situation may arise and the law and order situation could go out of control.

Another source in BBMP said the police have not been approached for protection “as we won’t be able to fulfill their demands.”
