Belagavi tops with 22, CM’s home turf Shikaripura sees 8 positive cases

BENGALURU:

Karnataka witnessed the highest single-day spike yet on Sunday with more than 53 positive cases,  besides one death in Bengaluru, as per the noon bulletin of the health and department. The total number of positive cases in state has now swollen to 847.

The deceased has been identified as P846. “P846, 56-year-old female resident of Bengaluru Urban, admitted at private hospital on May 4, subsequently got admitted to another private hospital on May 6 with complaint of SARI and sample sent for Covid same day. Patient died on May 7 and report confirmed positive on May 9,” the bulletin reads.

‘TJ history’

Belagavi was the frontrunner with 22 cases. “All Belagavi cases have a travel history of Ajmer in Rajasthan. Of them, 12 are female and there are two children, one male and one female, both 3 years old. All are admitted at a designated hospital,” a spokesperson said.

This apart, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa’s home turf, Shikaripura, is also under the scanner for Covid-19. “8 positive cases have been reported from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district, who have a travel history of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. All of them have returned recently after they were given the nod by both  state governments,” said Shivamogga district in-charge minister KS Eshwarappa.

Of the other places, Bagalkot reported 8, Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada 7, Bengaluru Urban and Kalaburagi  3 each, and Chikkaballapur and Davanagere one positive case each.

3-day worry

The last 3 days have seen major spikes of positive cases in the state. Friday witnessed 48 while Saturday saw 41 positive cases.

As per the latest information, Bengaluru Urban has reported 178  positive cases (85 active) till Sunday, while Belagavi has also joined the century club with the number of positive cases spiking to 105 (70 active).
