Stray Cattle Blocking East Bengaluru Roads? Call 1533; Owners Face Fines
Bengaluru, October 5: Residents who spot stray cattle blocking roads in East Bengaluru can report them through the Sahaya app or call 1533, as the Bengaluru East City Corporation launches a drive using a hydraulic vehicle to safely capture and move the animals.
The corporation’s control room can also be reached on 9480685706. Residents should provide the exact location and, where possible, a photograph so that staff can find the animals quickly, the corporation said.
Additional Commissioner (Development) Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar said the operation aims to protect motorists, pedestrians and animals. Cattle standing or lying in the middle of roads, or suddenly entering traffic, can create accident risks. Animals on footpaths can also obstruct pedestrians and affect cleanliness.
Where the animals will be taken
Until a cattle pound is built within the East corporation’s limits, animals captured during the drive will be moved to the Bengaluru Central City Corporation’s city cattle pound at K.R. Market.
Animals with owners will be returned after the prescribed fine is paid. Those without owners will be transferred to a goshala under the applicable procedure. The corporation said action would be taken against owners who repeatedly leave livestock on public roads, including further transfer of such animals to a goshala.
Fines announced by the corporation
For cattle, cows, bulls and buffaloes, the corporation specified Rs 600 per animal for the first three days or part of that period, followed by Rs 300 for each day after the third day. For calves, the corresponding amounts are Rs 300 and Rs 200 a day.
For horses, ponies and mules, the amount is Rs 100 per animal for the first three days, followed by Rs 50 a day. For a donkey or pig, it is Rs 50 for the first three days and Rs 25 a day thereafter. For sheep, goats and their young, the corporation listed Rs 25 per animal for the first three days.
The corporation said these amounts would be collected in accordance with the government notification dated May 5, 2014, issued under the Karnataka Cattle Trespass Act, 1966.
Drive runs Monday to Saturday
The operation will run from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding government holidays. On receiving a complaint, staff will take the hydraulic vehicle to the location, safely capture the animals and carry out the prescribed follow-up action.
Lokhande appealed to livestock owners to keep their animals safely and avoid leaving them on public roads, both for smoother traffic and the animals’ protection.
