New Delhi, July 9: Lotte India has issued an official clarification regarding the recent show cause notice issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), stating that the notice pertains to product labelling observations and does not question the vegetarian nature of its products.

In a statement issued through its public relations agency, the company said it has acknowledged receipt of the FSSAI notice and is responding within the prescribed timeline while extending full cooperation to the regulatory authority.

“Lotte India acknowledges receipt of the show cause notice issued by FSSAI and is engaging closely with the Authority while responding within the stipulated timeline,” the company said.

Clarifying the nature of the regulatory observations, Lotte India said the issue relates to the placement of the “100% Vegetarian” claim alongside the mandatory green vegetarian symbol on product packaging.

The company stated that some media reports have inaccurately portrayed the notice as questioning whether the products are vegetarian.

(TheBengaluruLive.com did not report that the products were non-vegetarian or that FSSAI had questioned their vegetarian status. Our earlier report was based on the official FSSAI’s notice, which referred to observations regarding labelling and claims.)

Lotte India reiterated that all its products are 100% vegetarian, manufactured exclusively using vegetarian ingredients, and comply with applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards regulations.

The company added that the prescribed green vegetarian symbol continues to appear on its packaging in accordance with regulatory requirements.

“As a company committed to the highest standards of product quality, safety and regulatory compliance, we are reviewing the observations raised and taking all necessary steps within the applicable regulatory framework,” the statement said.

Lotte India further urged stakeholders and consumers to rely only on verified information, stating that reports suggesting its products are not vegetarian are incorrect and do not reflect the actual subject of the FSSAI notice.

The company said it remains available to provide any further clarification regarding the matter.

This statement comes in response to the FSSAI show cause notice issued over certain product labelling observations. The regulatory proceedings are ongoing, and the matter remains under consideration by the food safety authority.
