Amruthahalli Culvert Built Above Road Level; Maheshwar Rao Orders Correction
Bengaluru, October 5: Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to bring a stormwater-drain culvert under construction at Amruthahalli 18th Cross to road level after finding that it had been built higher than the road.
The direction came during his inspection of roadworks and traffic bottlenecks across the Bengaluru North City Corporation area on Monday. He also asked officials to complete the culvert work quickly.
Concrete work on the 700-metre stretch being white-topped at Amruthahalli 18th Cross has been completed. BESCOM utility shifting, buffer work and footpath development remain in progress.
After noticing sewage flowing through the stormwater drain, Rao spoke to water board officials by phone and asked them to identify its source and prevent sewage from entering the drain.
Parking restrictions sought on narrow Dinnur Main Road
On Dinnur Main Road, between Ambedkar Medical College and Devegowda Circle, the inspection found that some sections were 9–10 metres wide while others narrowed to 6–7 metres.
Rao directed officials to coordinate with traffic police to prevent on-road parking on the busy stretch and improve vehicle movement. He asked the chief engineers to examine whether buildings at bottlenecks could be acquired for road widening and submit a proposal.
At Devegowda Circle, he asked officials to assess available space near a private apartment and the building opposite it and prepare a plan for a free-left turn to ease congestion.
Free-left turn proposed near Jakkur hotel
Of the 2.1-km white-topping project on K.V. Jayaram Road near Jakkur, 250 metres have been completed. Rao directed officials to take steps to provide a free-left turn near Krishna Sagar Hotel for smoother traffic movement.
On Tannery Road, where white-topping is underway, he sought a proposal examining the feasibility of widening a narrow section near Venkateshwara Swamy Temple and corporation land.
Chief engineers Dr. Raghavendra Prasad, Sanjeev Raj and Mahadesh, along with executive engineers and other officials, attended the inspection.
