Karnataka to Launch Grand School Reopening Festival on June 1; CM Siddaramaiah to Inaugurate Statewide Event
Bengaluru: Karnataka School Education and Literacy Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa on Saturday held a major video conference with headmasters, teachers and senior education officials from nearly 46,000 government schools across the state to review preparations for the upcoming academic year.
During the meeting, the minister announced that Karnataka will celebrate a grand Statewide School Reopening Festival (Shala Prarambhotsava) on June 1, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
CM Siddaramaiah to Welcome Students
Madhu Bangarappa stated that the Chief Minister would officially welcome students back to schools as part of the statewide celebrations.
On the same day, Siddaramaiah will also virtually address a massive Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (Mega PTM) to be conducted simultaneously in schools across Karnataka.
The Chief Minister is expected to interact directly with students and parents through video conferencing during the event.
Foundation Stone for KPS School in Shivamogga
As part of the school reopening celebrations, Siddaramaiah will also lay the foundation stone for a new Karnataka Public School (KPS) building in Shivamogga.
In addition, the Chief Minister will launch the statewide foundation stone programme for Karnataka Public Schools from Shivamogga itself.
The minister instructed officials to actively educate parents and the public about:
- The objectives of KPS schools
- Quality of education offered
- Infrastructure and facilities available
Praise for SSLC and PUC Results
Madhu Bangarappa congratulated teachers and education officials for the excellent results recorded in the recent SSLC and PUC examinations.
He said the achievement was possible because of:
- Strict implementation of the department’s 29-point circular
- Transparent evaluation systems
- State-level preparatory examinations conducted free of cost
- Standardised question papers
Key Priorities for the New Academic Year
The minister outlined several priorities for the upcoming academic session.
Student Enrollment Drive
Officials were instructed to focus on increasing enrollment in government schools and identify students who had failed examinations or dropped out so they could be brought back into the education system through awareness campaigns.
Mid-Day Meal Scheme
Madhu Bangarappa stressed that the Mid-Day Meal programme must be managed efficiently without any lapses, particularly from the perspective of children’s health and nutrition.
Timely Distribution of Materials
The minister directed officials to ensure that:
- Textbooks
- Uniforms
- Other essential educational materials
are distributed to students on time at the beginning of the academic year.
Field-Level Monitoring
DDPI, BEO, CRP and BRP officials were instructed not to remain limited to office-based file reviews but to regularly visit schools and monitor:
- Quality of teaching
- Teacher attendance
- Overall academic functioning
“Students Are Karnataka’s Human Resource Foundation”
Madhu Bangarappa reiterated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s message that SSLC is a qualifying examination that serves as a bridge to higher education.
“Students are the foundation of Karnataka’s human resources. Every teacher must work with commitment to further improve SSLC results,” the minister said during the meeting.
