DK Shivakumar Hits Back at HD Kumaraswamy, Accuses His Family of Building Wealth Through Real Estate Deals
Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar launched a sharp counterattack against former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, accusing his family of amassing wealth through real estate activities and controversial land dealings linked to the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project areas.
Speaking to reporters at National Public School in Horamavu on Saturday, Shivakumar said Kumaraswamyâs family had no moral authority to comment on property and khata-related issues.
âKumaraswamyâs Family Built Wealth Through Real Estateâ
âThose who accumulated wealth through real estate are members of Kumaraswamyâs own family,â Shivakumar alleged.
He further claimed that Kumaraswamyâs elder brother had acquired properties around the PRR alignment by allegedly intimidating landowners into selling at low prices.
âAsk people in areas like Dodda Gubbi and Chikka Gubbi. They will explain how properties were registered for âč7 lakh, âč8 lakh or âč10 lakh and are now worth âč25 crore, âč30 crore or even âč50 crore,â he alleged.
Remarks Over Khata Conversion
Shivakumar was responding to Kumaraswamyâs recent statement asking people not to pay fees for khata conversion, claiming that his party would soon return to power.
Calling the statement âdaydreaming,â the Deputy CM said: âKumaraswamy is always dreaming in broad daylight. His government is not returning to power.â
He also pointed out that the Bidadi township project, which Kumaraswamy recently criticised, was originally initiated during his own tenure.
âCongress Government Is Delivering Resultsâ
Shivakumar defended the Congress governmentâs governance initiatives, saying people were benefiting from ongoing administrative reforms and digital property documentation drives.
âThe Congress government is in power and is doing pro-people work. Citizens are making use of these services,â he said.
Questions Silence on Fuel Price Hike
The Deputy CM also questioned why Kumaraswamy was not speaking about rising petrol, diesel, LPG and gold prices.
âWhy is he silent about petrol, diesel and cooking gas price hikes? Why is he not speaking about appeals asking people not to buy gold?â Shivakumar asked.
âHe Only Criticises Othersâ
Shivakumar alleged that Kumaraswamy had no agenda other than criticising political opponents.
âDid he do anything substantial for poor people during his tenure? He could not even provide drinking water to people. I have done that work,â he said.
Bengaluru Civic Reforms Highlighted
The Deputy CM highlighted the Congress governmentâs civic reforms in Bengaluru, including:
- Property documentation correction drives
- Administrative restructuring
- Creation of five civic corporations in Bengaluru
He claimed even BJP leaders were privately appreciating the reforms being carried out under his leadership.
âJealousy and Frustrationâ
Responding to criticism from former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda regarding leadership ambitions, Shivakumar said: âLet them first remember what happened regarding transfer of power within their own family before commenting on others.â
He accused his critics of acting out of jealousy and frustration over the current governmentâs initiatives.
