Karnataka Tourism Clears ₹47.23 Crore Subsidy for 18 Hotel Projects; 78 New Projects Worth ₹1,080.97 Crore Get In-Principle Approval
Bengaluru, September 2: Karnataka has approved an estimated ₹47.23 crore in subsidy for 18 hotel projects involving an investment of ₹314.93 crore, while granting in-principle approval to another 78 hotel projects with a proposed investment of ₹1,080.97 crore under the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George said.
The decisions were taken at the sixth Empowered Committee meeting of the Karnataka Tourism Policy, chaired by George, as part of efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure and encourage private investment in the state.
Under the tourism policy, subsidy approval was granted for 18 projects comprising eight premium hotels and 10 budget hotels. The projects represent an investment of ₹314.93 crore and have added 655 hotel rooms and created 1,542 jobs, according to the media release.
The committee approved an estimated subsidy of ₹47.23 crore for these projects at the meeting held on September 2.
The meeting also granted in-principle approval to 78 projects under the Karnataka Tourism Policy 2024-29, comprising 35 premium hotels and 43 budget hotels.
Once implemented, these 78 projects are expected to bring an investment of ₹1,080.97 crore into the state, add 3,424 hotel rooms and create 3,707 jobs.
The government said the new hotel projects are expected to increase the availability of quality accommodation at tourist destinations while supporting private investment, local employment and tourism-related economic activity.
George said Karnataka has significant tourism potential and that expanding quality accommodation and hospitality infrastructure in line with that potential is a priority for the government.
He said the new tourism policy is intended to encourage private investment while increasing employment and local economic activity across different parts of the state.
George said the in-principle approval for 78 new hotel projects involving investment of more than ₹1,080 crore was a positive indication for the growth of Karnataka’s tourism sector.
Tourism Department Secretary Dr Ram Prasath Manohar, IAS, said the objective of the new hotel projects is not limited to increasing the number of rooms but also to provide tourists with better accommodation choices across different price categories.
He said implementation of the 35 premium and 43 budget hotel projects would add 3,424 rooms and generate 3,707 jobs.
The Tourism Department will take the necessary steps to ensure that implementation of the projects proceeds within the stipulated timeframe, he said.
