Bengaluru: The 7.5-km stretch of Namma Metro’s Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara on Bannerghatta Road and Tavarekere is ready for inauguration, with Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda saying the State is hopeful of securing a date from the Government of India within September.

“The Pink Line from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, 7.5 km, is ready for inauguration. We are ready,” Krishna Byre Gowda said, adding that the stretch would be inaugurated and opened to commuters as soon as the Government of India gives a date.

The minister travelled on the Pink Line for a trial inspection along with Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, Bengaluru South constituency MLA M. Krishnappa and BMRCL Managing Director P.C. Jafar. The inspection journey began from Jayadeva Hospital station.

Krishna Byre Gowda also visited the under-construction Kottigere Metro station and obtained details from officials about the progress of station works, safety arrangements and traffic management.

In a post on X after the inspection, Tejasvi Surya said he had inspected the Pink Line from Jayadeva Station to Kalena Agrahara along with Krishna Byre Gowda and Krishnappa.

Surya said BMRCL had targeted the line for inauguration by the end of September and that he and the minister had urged officials to adhere to the deadline and complete the required work.

He said he had spoken to CMRS officials on Wednesday morning regarding safety clearances and timelines. According to Surya, rolling stock approval is expected within the next 15 days, after which clearance for the entire line is expected.

Surya said he would work with officials and the Central Government to facilitate the required approvals at the earliest.

He said the Pink Line would help ease congestion on Bannerghatta Road and strengthen Bengaluru’s mass transit network.

Surya also used the post to criticise the proposed Tunnel Road project, arguing that Bengaluru needed more public transport projects that were scientific, sustainable and aimed at easing traffic. He said citizens and the Opposition would support such projects in the city’s interest.
