Bengaluru: Commuters along Bannerghatta Road moved a step closer to a new Metro connection after the three-day safety inspection of the 7.5-km elevated Pink Line was completed. Passenger services on the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere section will require opening authorisation, which is subject to compliance with the safety commissioner’s observations and conditions, BMRCL said.
The section will add six stations to Namma Metro and, once opened, increase its operational network from 96.10 km to 103.60 km. The corridor is expected to improve connectivity along Bannerghatta Road and adjoining areas.
Six stations on the elevated corridor
The elevated Pink Line comprises Kalena Agrahara, Hulimavu, IIMB, JP Nagar 4th Phase, Jayadeva Hospital and Tavarekere stations.
V. Venkatasubramanian, Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, and his team carried out the statutory inspection from October 6 to 8. The exercise covered the mainline, associated infrastructure, depot facilities, train trials and the control centre.
From track inspection to train trials
On October 6, the team inspected the mainline and associated infrastructure using a motor trolley. On October 7, it continued the trolley inspection, examined facilities at Kothanur Depot and conducted train trials and testing on the mainline.
The inspection concluded on October 8 with a review of the Operations Control Centre at Baiyappanahalli.
What is required before passenger services begin?
BMRCL obtained the speed certificate from the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) in August 2026. This was followed by the Railway Board’s provisional sanction for the rolling stock and certification of the signalling system by the Independent Safety Assessor (ISA).
The CMRS inspection is a key statutory safety assessment before the section can be authorised for public carriage. BMRCL said the authorisation would be issued subject to compliance with the observations and conditions stipulated during the inspection.
