DCM condemns incident, promises to resolve salary issues
KOLAR/BENGALURU:
Disgruntled employees vandalised the Narasapura premises of Taiwanese tech giant Wistron Corporation on Saturday morning, reportedly on account of delays in payment of salaries. The company manufactures iPhones and IoT products.
The premises of the company, around 60 km from Bengaluru, are now totally shut and tight police security has been provided.
The employees, who had been agitating over salary issues, turned violent after the night shift got over on Saturday morning, and reportedly smashed window panes and set vehicles ablaze.
Thousands of workers gathered at the premises to protest against non-payment of wages for the past couple of months. Besides, the company had allegedly not fulfilled an assurance to create around 15,000 jobs.
Rs 2,900-crore investment
The Karnataka government had allotted 43 acres at the Narasapura industrial area to Wistron after it proposed to invest around Rs 2,900 crore in its venture. The top brass of the company are yet to respond to Saturday’s incident.
