Rs 100 crore to be provided in first phase, says DCM

BELAGAVI:

The state government has decided to build the new campus of Rani Channamma University at Hirebagewadi itself, said Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan. The DCM, who is also Higher Education Minister, said an amount of Rs.100 crore would be provided for the purpose in the first phase. He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the land sanctioned for the campus on Saturday.

Pointing to the long-standing demand for the campus, the DCM said it was difficult to get land near the city and the location of the campus should not become an ego issue. He said the multi-village drinking water project would not be cancelled because of this decision, and alternative arrangements would be made for the project.

The land for the campus was sanctioned due to the efforts of several public representatives, including district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi. Developmental work will be taken up in Kittur too, the DCM said.

Sanjay Patil, president, rural district unit of BJP, said the villagers had agreed to give the levelled land on top of the hill for the university campus.
