Thawarchand Gehlot Urges Bidar University Graduates to Use Knowledge, Skills for Nation-Building
Bidar, September 12: Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot on Saturday called upon students to use their knowledge, skills and talent for the welfare of society and nation-building, saying young people have a decisive role in India’s development.
Presiding over the first convocation of Bidar University, Gehlot told graduating students that they were beginning a new chapter in their lives and advised them to remain humble in success, show courage in difficult times and rise again with determination after failure.
Whenever they face uncertainty about the direction they should take in life, students should ask themselves what they can do for the country and society with their knowledge and abilities, the Governor said. Such thinking, he added, would make their lives meaningful while motivating them to contribute to national development.
Referring to rapid changes driven by artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, Gehlot urged students to approach local problems around them with new ideas and turn those challenges into opportunities.
He said agriculture, healthcare, education, tourism, digital services, environment and rural development offered significant opportunities for innovation and startups. With a good idea, appropriate knowledge and determination, even a small initiative could be transformed into a major change, he said.
The Governor also highlighted India’s centuries-old knowledge traditions, saying the country has made significant contributions to fields including mathematics, medicine, astronomy, philosophy, languages, literature, agriculture and the environment.
He called for scientific study and research into this knowledge heritage and for its appropriate application in the modern context. India, he said, should be rooted in its traditional knowledge while also embracing modern science.
Gehlot said India was rapidly moving towards becoming one of the world’s leading developed nations and stressed the importance of young people in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Students studying at universities today would become tomorrow’s scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs, doctors, administrators and nation-builders, he said, urging them to apply their knowledge and skills to the country’s progress.
Highlighting Bidar’s history, culture, architecture and diversity, Gehlot said the region’s heritage demonstrated that India’s strength lay not only in material resources but also in its knowledge traditions and cultural consciousness.
He said there was no shortage of talent in the Kalyana Karnataka region and stressed the need to connect that talent with quality education, skill development, research and modern opportunities.
The Governor expressed confidence that Bidar University would work towards fulfilling the aspirations of young people in the region and develop into an important centre for knowledge-based development.
He urged students to dream big, set high goals and remain persistent in their efforts, while contributing through their knowledge and skills to making India self-reliant, economically strong and developed.
Gehlot also congratulated Shivayya Swamiji and R.M. Janwadkar, who were conferred honorary doctorates at the convocation. He extended his congratulations to degree and medal recipients, their parents, teachers and the Bidar University community.
Retired Justice Dr Krishna S. and Vice-Chancellor Prof. B.S. Biradar were among those present at the programme.
