Bengaluru: A special court of the National Investigation Agency has sentenced Huzair Farhan Baig, also known as Huzair, to six years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹58,000 in the Bengaluru–Shivamogga Islamic State conspiracy case, the NIA said.
In a statement posted on X, the agency said the case concerns an alleged conspiracy linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State. The NIA described Baig as one of the persons convicted in the case.

The case was originally registered by Karnataka Police on September 19, 2022. The NIA subsequently took over the investigation and re-registered it on November 15, 2022, as RC-46/2022/NIA/DLI.
According to the agency, its investigation found that an alleged IS module was operating clandestinely in Thirthahalli town in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. The NIA said members of the alleged module were being guided by an online handler identified as Mohammed Shaheed Faisal, described by the agency as an absconding accused in other terror cases.
The agency alleged that Baig was radicalised and recruited by co-accused Maaz Muneer Ahmed and Syed Yasin. It further alleged that, on Ahmed’s instructions, Baig arranged a hideout in Bengaluru and received cryptocurrency through accounts belonging to friends, which was later converted into fiat currency to make payments connected with the hideout.
The NIA said it has filed four charge sheets against 12 accused in the case. According to the statement, three persons have so far been convicted and sentenced to six years of rigorous imprisonment along with fines.
The agency said its investigation is continuing to trace Mohammed Shaheed Faisal and establish his alleged role in planning and setting up the module.
