Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday convened a meeting with representatives of workers’ unions from state transport corporations at Vidhana Soudha to discuss their long-pending demands related to wage revision and arrears.
During the discussion, the unions — representing employees of KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and KKRTC — pressed for:
- Immediate payment of 38 months’ wage arrears pending since the January 1, 2020 pay revision.
- Implementation of a fresh wage revision effective from January 1, 2024, along with payment of arrears due since then.
CM Siddaramaiah clarified that no official government order has yet been issued regarding the 38-month arrears. However, he assured the representatives that the matter will be further deliberated in a meeting with the Joint Action Committee next week.
The meeting was also attended by Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, CM’s Political Secretary Naseer Ahmed, senior government officials, and union leaders from the Joint Action Committee of transport employees.
The deliberations signal a renewed push towards resolving the long-pending grievances of Karnataka’s public transport workers, who have been demanding fair compensation and wage parity.
