New Delhi/Bengaluru: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar spoke over a video call with Mallinath, a Kannadiga who survived the flooding disaster in Nepal, and assured him that the Karnataka government stood with people from the state affected by the emergency.

“Stay courageous. Do not attempt to leave the safe place where you are currently staying. Our government is with you and we will respond to your difficulties,” Shivakumar told Mallinath during the call on Thursday.

Shivakumar, who was in New Delhi, made the video call as the Karnataka government worked to identify and assist people from the state who may have been stranded following flash floods and disruptions near the Nepal–Tibet border and adjoining areas.

The Chief Minister said contact had been lost with some people who had travelled from Karnataka to Nepal and that efforts were under way to locate them.

“There is no need for anyone to lose heart. We are all Kannadigas, and our government will remain with you,” he said.

The state government has asked stranded people, their relatives and tour operators to submit relevant information to facilitate coordination of rescue, evacuation and other assistance with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian missions in Nepal and Beijing.

People requiring assistance may also contact the Karnataka State Emergency Operation Centre on 1070 or 080-22253707, according to information circulated by the state government.
