ANEKAL/BENGALURU:

Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, visited the site of a tragic firework disaster near Attibele in Anekal taluk, where 13 people lost their lives on Saturday.

Officials have confirmed that 13 individuals perished in the incident. I have personally spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding this tragedy. The government will provide a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased, Shivakumar announced to the media at the spot on Saturday night.

At the time of the accident, there were 20 people present. Four managed to escape, while 13 bodies have been recovered. The remaining individuals are currently under investigation. Is there anyone trapped in the neighbouring building? Has anyone sought shelter elsewhere? It is crucial to exercise caution as there are firecrackers stored in the adjacent building, which poses additional danger. The police have advised opening the door with utmost care, DCM said.

A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the cause of this tragedy. The owner of the premises was also injured and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. We are examining whether fire prevention regulations were followed and identifying any potential loopholes, he said.
