Bengaluru: Koppal leader Shambulinganagouda Patil Halageri joined the BJP with a group of workers at the party’s Jagannatha Bhavan office in Bengaluru on October 12, in the presence of Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra.
The BJP said the workers, led by Halageri, had left the Congress to join the party. Its statement did not specify the number of people who joined.
Vijayendra said the induction would strengthen the BJP in the Kalyana Karnataka region. He attributed their decision to confidence in the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and governance.
Background in teaching and employee organisations
According to the BJP’s account of his background, Halageri was born in 1966 in Halageri village in Koppal taluk and district. He worked as a teacher and was involved in education, social service and organisational activities.
The party said he had been active in organisational work for around 30 years, served three terms as president of the Koppal district government employees’ association and held the post of state vice-president of the employees’ association. It also said he had been elected unopposed as state president of the teachers’ association.
Legislative Council Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and former deputy chief minister and MP Govind Karjol were among those present at the programme, along with party leaders and workers.
