Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi to discuss sugarcane pricing for the 2026–27 sugar season and concerns raised by growers in the state.
Shivakumar said he urged the Union government to consider Karnataka’s views and safeguard sugarcane farmers’ interests. The discussions focused on ensuring fair and remunerative prices for growers and addressing the issues they had raised.
In his October 12 update on the meeting, the Chief Minister placed cane pricing for the coming sugar season at the centre of Karnataka’s request to the Union government.
