City police commissioner Bhaskar Rao has warned commercial establishments that they will be prosecuted if they fail to observe coronavirus precautions like wearing masks and social distancing. The police have already started conducting raids on non-conforming shops, malls, hotels and banks, Rao said.
The polce chief’s warning of stringent legal action against guideline violators comes in the backdrop of businesses reopening in Bengaluru since the first week of June, and increasing evidence of institutions and individuals alike taking the coronavirus precautions casually. Experts have stressed that measures like wearing masks and social distancing are crucial to combating the worrying rise in Covid-19 cases in the city.
Bhaskar Rao tweeted: “Shops, malls, banks, hotels, offices and establishments. All of you are already aware of the precautions to be taken. If you do not implement mask wearing and ensure safe distance, the City Police will raid and initiate legal action. This has already started, it’s is in the public interest.”
