Ramalinga Reddy on Bengaluru Civic Push: “Garbage, Potholes Will Be Fixed on War Footing; BJP Left ₹8,000 Cr BBMP Debt”
Bengaluru: Karnataka Transport Minister and BTM Layout MLA Ramalinga Reddy, who wields significant influence over Bengaluru’s civic administration, said the city’s clean-up and pothole-repair drive will be executed on a “war footing” with clear timelines for officials.
Speaking to reporters, Reddy outlined the evolving municipal set-up and political responsibility:
- Five Mayors, new teams: “With multiple corporations, there will be five mayors and fresh teams. Parties have named in-charge ministers for each corporation — that’s a party decision, not a government appointment,” he said.
- Election readiness: “Elections are like a war; we have to be battle-ready.”
Potholes, Garbage and Accountability
Reddy said residents have flagged issues across many wards, especially during the monsoon. “We are closing all potholes swiftly. During the BJP government, the High Court monitored BBMP every month on pothole closure. Today, that pressure situation doesn’t exist, but we’re still moving fast,” he noted.
Targeting the previous administration, he added: “They forget the heaps of garbage and lakhs of potholes Bengaluru saw then. The BJP left ₹8,000 crore debt in BBMP alone, plus a pile of pending bills. We’re clearing those dues while fixing the basics.”
Border Dumping and Coordination
On roadside dumping at city borders, Reddy said agencies are coordinating to identify vehicles and offenders, with time-bound closure of black spots and daily field rounds by officials.
