Bengaluru: Social worker Dr. Woode P. Krishna has been unanimously selected for the 2026 Mahatma Gandhi Seva Award–Karnataka after a selection committee reviewed the credentials and service records of 24 individuals and six institutions.
The Karnataka government has accepted the committee’s report and recommendation and announced Krishna as this year’s recipient, according to the announcement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations.
The award recognises individuals or institutions that uphold Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and ideals. It is presented as part of the department’s observance of Gandhi Jayanti across the state.
Committee reviewed 30 entries
The selection committee, chaired by retired High Court judge T.G. Shivashankare Gowda, met on September 23 to examine the entries received for the award.
After a detailed review of the eligibility and service records of the six institutions and 24 individuals, the panel unanimously recommended Krishna for the 2026 honour.
The government’s acceptance of that recommendation confirms his selection for the award, which honours service rooted in Gandhian values.
