PG Owner Beaten to Death With Cricket Bat in Bengaluru After Objecting to Public Drinking; Two Arrested
Bengaluru, June 23: A 41-year-old paying guest (PG) owner was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat in Bengaluru’s Ramamurthy Nagar after he objected to two youths consuming alcohol and creating a disturbance outside his establishment, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Madhava (41), who operated a PG accommodation near CMR College in OMBR Layout.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred late on Saturday night when two youths were allegedly drinking liquor and creating a nuisance in front of the PG. Madhava reportedly stepped out and asked them not to consume alcohol near the premises and requested them to leave the area.
Police said the two men became enraged following the argument. During the altercation, Madhava allegedly picked up a cricket bat and attempted to confront them. However, the accused reportedly snatched the bat from him and assaulted him.
Madhava sustained severe head injuries during the attack and collapsed on the spot. He was declared dead shortly thereafter.
Following the incident, Ramamurthy Nagar Police launched an investigation and arrested two accused identified as Don Bites alias Don of Kammanahalli and Rakesh of Jeevanahalli.
Police sources said the area frequently witnesses disturbances as a bar is located close to the PG and college premises. Residents have reportedly complained about similar incidents of public drinking and nuisance in the past.
Investigators are examining the sequence of events and recording statements from witnesses. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over public drinking, law and order issues, and the safety of residents in busy student and residential localities of Bengaluru.
