Hoskote Police Move to Stop 4 AM Biryani Service, Direct Hotels to Open at 6 AM
Hoskote/Bengaluru: Police have directed biryani hotels in Hoskote to stop opening around 4 am and begin business only from 6 am, citing accidents, altercations and other safety concerns linked to large early-morning crowds arriving in the town for biryani.
Hoskote, known for its early-morning biryani outlets, attracts large numbers of customers, including tech professionals arriving on long drives. Police have held a meeting with biryani hotel owners and instructed them to shift their opening time from around 4 am to 6 am.
However, some outlets allegedly opened at around 4.30 am despite the direction, with customers queuing up from early morning to buy biryani. Police are now preparing to take stricter action against establishments that fail to comply with the instructions.
The restrictions follow concerns over accidents and casualties involving people travelling early in the morning for biryani on routes connecting Bengaluru, Kolar and Hoskote. Police have also taken into account incidents of altercations near the outlets, including a recent assault following a dispute over moving a car.
Hoskote police are preparing to issue notices to biryani hotels, and a team led by Police Inspector Govind has reiterated that outlets should not open at 4 am from next week and should begin operations only at 6 am.
Police are also considering deploying beat personnel near the hotels to ensure compliance. Hotels have been asked to display appropriate notices and police have also called for measures to curb alcohol consumption and smoking around the establishments.
The move has, however, drawn objections from some early-morning customers. Some tech professionals travelling towards Nandi Hills said they preferred reaching Hoskote around 3 am, having biryani and returning home before traffic builds up. They argued that a 6 am opening could leave them caught in peak traffic and favoured retaining the 4 am opening time.
Police, however, have maintained that biryani outlets should not open around 4 am and have reiterated the 6 am opening direction as part of measures to address safety and law-and-order concerns.
