Bengaluru North City Corporation Gives 37 Vacant-Site Owners 24 Hours to Clear Waste
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru North City Corporation has issued notices to the owners of 37 vacant sites maintained in an unhygienic condition, directing them to clear garbage, weeds and construction debris within 24 hours.
The corporation warned that if the owners fail to comply within the stipulated period, it will undertake the cleaning operation and recover the entire cost through the respective property-tax accounts.
The action was initiated under the direction of Bengaluru North City Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar and under the guidance of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, according to an official media release.
The notices were issued under Bye-law 18(1)(b) of the Solid Waste Management Bye-laws, 2020, and Sections 274(1), 285(2) and 290 of the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024.
The owners have been instructed to remove the accumulated waste, weeds and construction debris and dispose of it at designated locations. No further action will be required against owners who clean their properties within the prescribed period, the corporation said.
If a site is not cleaned within 24 hours, the corporation will deploy its resources to clear it. The expenses incurred will subsequently be added to and recovered with the property tax payable by the owner.
The measure is intended to prevent vacant properties from becoming unhygienic dumping grounds and causing inconvenience or health risks to the public. The corporation urged property owners to maintain their sites regularly and keep them free of waste.
