Bihar Couple Visiting Son in Bengaluru Found Dead; Husband Allegedly Kills Wife Before Dying by Suicide
Bengaluru, June 23: A tragic incident was reported from north Bengaluru where an elderly man allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide at his son’s residence in the jurisdiction of Sampigehalli Police Station.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sumitra Prasad (77), while her husband, Shivanandam Prasad (73), is suspected to have killed her before taking his own life.
According to preliminary police investigations, the couple, natives of Bihar, had recently come to Bengaluru to stay with their son. Police said both were suffering from age-related health issues. Sumitra Prasad reportedly had vision-related complications and heart ailments, while the couple frequently argued over health and personal issues.
On Saturday night, after having dinner, the couple retired to their room. Investigators believe an argument broke out between them later in the night.
During the altercation, Shivanandam Prasad allegedly smothered his wife to death. After the incident, he is suspected to have died by suicide.
The deaths came to light after family members noticed the couple and alerted authorities.
Sampigehalli Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and police are awaiting detailed forensic and medical reports.
