Bengaluru Urban Farmers Asked to Fence Agricultural Ponds and Install Warning Boards to Prevent Accidents
Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Urban Agriculture Department has asked farmers to install wire fencing and warning boards around agricultural ponds, cautioning that inadequate safety measures could result in children, members of the public and livestock accidentally falling into them.
The appeal was issued by the Joint Director of Agriculture, Bengaluru Urban district, with the safety message that one precautionary step could prevent serious accidents.
Agricultural ponds constructed under Krishi Bhagya and other government schemes are used to collect rainwater and support farming activities. However, ponds without protective fencing could pose a danger to people and animals, the department said.
All farmers possessing agricultural ponds have been advised to install wire fencing around them and prominently display boards carrying the warning “Danger—Agricultural Pond” so that members of the public remain aware of the risk.
The department urged farmers to treat these precautions as mandatory safety measures and take immediate steps to secure ponds located on their land.
