Bengaluru: The ongoing speculation around a possible leadership change in Karnataka has taken a fresh turn after remarks by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, triggering renewed debate within the party.

The discussion gained momentum after Home Minister G. Parameshwara recently stated that if a senior and experienced leader like Kharge were to become Chief Minister, it would be welcomed. His remarks sparked widespread political chatter, prompting a response from Kharge himself.

Reacting to the speculation, Kharge maintained a cautious stance, stating that decisions within the party are guided by ideology and collective leadership rather than individual ambition. He emphasized that any decision regarding the Chief Minister’s post would ultimately be taken by the Congress high command, including leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

While acknowledging that some leaders consider him suitable, Kharge indicated that there is currently no immediate question of a leadership change, as Siddaramaiah is already serving as Chief Minister. He added that any such decision would require time and deliberation at the highest level.

At the same time, Kharge assured that internal issues within the Karnataka Congress would be resolved soon.

Meanwhile, reactions within the party remain mixed. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar refrained from commenting directly, suggesting that questions be directed to Kharge. Other leaders, including ministers and MLAs, have expressed that any leadership decision would depend entirely on the high command.

Adding to the political buzz, recent administrative changes—such as the appointment of a new intelligence chief—have sparked speculation in some quarters. However, officials indicate that these developments may not necessarily signal any imminent leadership change.

The evolving situation continues to keep political observers engaged, with the Congress leadership expected to take a calibrated approach on any future decisions.
