Flats in BDA and private complexes may be utilized: Minister
BENGALURU:
The state government has set itself an ultra-ambitious target of requisitioning 10,000 beds for Covid patients by Monday evening. Speaking to the press on Saturday after a video conference with officials from various departments, Medical Education Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar said the process of identifying suitable government and private facilities was underway. “I am personally monitoring the process,” Dr Sudhakar said.
The places being looked at include hospitals attached to government and private medical colleges, private hospitals, BDA housing complexes, stadiums, hostels and large commercial complexes.
Places with facilities like ventilators and high-flow oxygen lines will be converted into Covid hospitals. Since Covid Care Centres do not require extensive facilities, apartment complexes built by BDA and the housing department will be utilized. Flats available in about 3,000 private residential complexes registered under RERA will also be looked at, the minister said.
All necessary arrangements in the identified facilities will be made with assistance from the private sector. KSRP, the Home Guards, NCC cadets and the para-military forces stationed in the city will be utilised for security.
No need to panic’
Urging people not to panic, the minister said of the 11,005 cases in Karanataka, 3,905 are active and 6,916 have recovered.
Additional Chief Secretary Jawaid Akhtar, BDA Commissioner Dr.M.Mahadev, Medical Education Secretary T.K.Anil Kumar, RERA Secretary Lalita Kumari, Sports Secretary Srinivas, Medical Education Director Dr. Girish and other senior officials were present.
