BENGALURU/NEW DELHI:
Former Karnataka cadre IPS officer K Annamalai joined the BJP on Tuesday in the presence of party president J P Nadda. The 39-year-old’s move comes ahead of next year’s Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar welcomed Annamalai’s move and tweeted: “Retired IPS officer of Karnataka cadre Annamalai joins BJP in Delhi today. I am very happy that he joined the BJP.”

Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar also welcomed his induction into the party.

‘Fan of Modi’
Kuppusamy Annamalai served as Superintendent of Police in Udupi and Chikkamagalur, and Deputy Commissioner of Police in Bengaluru South. He quit the service and started the ‘We The Leaders’ Foundation. He calls himself a fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to the media, Annamalai said, “The BJP is a nationalist party and I am a nationalist.” He said the BJP would give a new direction to Tamil Nadu politics. He plans to contest the 2021 TN assembly elections.
Annamalai hails from Karur district of Tamil Nadu. He was an IPS officer of the 2011 batch and served in the Karnataka police department for 10 years. He resigned on May 28, 2019, after earning himself a name as ‘Singam’ of Karnataka.
