Criminal Case Filed Against Licensed Surveyor Over Illegal Land Measurement in Yelahanka
Bengaluru: A criminal case has been registered against a licensed surveyor and an applicant for allegedly carrying out an illegal land subdivision and measurement process in Yelahanka taluk, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the Assistant Director of Land Records, Yelahanka Taluk, licensed surveyor T.K.L. Prakash and applicant Balaram have been booked at the Kodigehalli Police Station over alleged irregularities involving land in Survey No. 13/1 of Kothihosahalli village.
Officials stated that Balaram had applied for a “Tatkal Podi” land measurement process, following which the surveyor allegedly colluded with the applicant and prepared a land sketch showing 1 acre 19 guntas, despite the presence of a BBMP building and a public playground on the site.
Authorities further alleged that the surveyor failed to consider that around 33 guntas of the land had already been reserved as a Civic Amenity (CA) site/park area during approval of the layout plan by the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA).
The disputed land had reportedly been leased by the BDA to the Sahakara Nagar Club for a period of 30 years. Following objections raised by the BDA over alleged illegal subdivision including the reserved CA site, a formal complaint seeking legal action was submitted.
Subsequently, the Commissioner of the Survey Settlement and Land Records Department, along with departmental officials, conducted a spot inspection on April 25, 2026.
After finding prima facie evidence of concealment of ground realities and irregular land measurement, the Commissioner directed officials to initiate criminal proceedings against both the surveyor and the applicant.
Based on the directive, a criminal case was registered at Kodigehalli Police Station on April 28, 2026, under provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964 and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
