Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has revoked the suspension of senior IPS officer Dr K Ramachandra Rao (KN:1993) and reinstated him into service with immediate effect.

According to an official government order issued on May 6, 2026, Dr Ramachandra Rao has been posted as Director General of Police (Police Manual) until further orders.

Dr Ramachandra Rao, who was serving as the Director General of Police, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, had earlier been placed under suspension on January 19, 2026 under Rule 3(1)(a) of the All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 pending disciplinary proceedings.

The government order stated that disciplinary proceedings against the officer were subsequently initiated on March 18, 2026 under Rule 8(4) of the AIS (D&A) Rules, 1969.

Following a review of the circumstances mentioned in the proceedings, the state government decided to revoke the suspension and reinstate the officer into service.

The order further clarified that the post of Director General of Police (Police Manual) would be considered equivalent in status and responsibilities to the cadre post of Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Special Units and Economic Offences, Bengaluru under IPS Pay Rules, 2016.

The order was issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Services-4) in the name of the Governor of Karnataka.
