Private medical colleges in Bengaluru to provide 4,500 Covid beds

BENGALURU:

Following a meeting on Tuesday with the Chief Minister and other ministers, 11 private medical colleges in Bengaluru have agreed to provide a total of 4,500 beds for Covid patients.

The 3 government medical colleges in Bengaluru are already treating Covid patients.

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said the private medical colleges had agreed to provide 50 per cent of their beds and other facilities for treatment of Covid cases.

“There are 10,000 beds in the 11 medical colleges. Of these, 4,500 beds have been approved,” the CM said.

The heads of these institutions had put forward some demands, which the government has agreed to. The CM said the government would provide all kinds of assistance, including insurance cover for doctors and financial assistance for paramedical staff.

Till date, 2,200 beds have been notified for Covid treatment at the private medical colleges in the city.
