MANGALURU: The son of a police sub-inspector has been arrested for repeatedly raping a minor girl. The issue came to light when the girl’s family found out that she was pregnant.
The accused Manjunath, an autorickshaw driver, who is married and has children, would reportedly enter the house of the 17-year-old girl when she was alone and raped her 6-7 times.
The incident occurred under the Puttur women’s police station limits and the accused has been booked under BNS and the POCSO Act.
In another incident, a youth was thrashed for sending obscene messages to another youth mistaking the latter for a girl, at Kolnadu village in Bantwal taluk. A video of the youth being thrashed was shared widely on social media.
The accused Sawad (20), a resident of Kanyana Panjaje, who was working in a garment store at Koramangala in Bengaluru. He had come home for the Ramzan celebration and after he was thrashed, he was handed over to the Vitla police.
Sawad had visited a store and asked a female attendant for her mobile number to make a UPI payment. However, the female attendant had given her coworker’s number. On Sunday night, Sawad started messaging the number, sending obscene videos and asking the ‘girl’ to send nude videos.
The woman’s colleague cleverly kept replying to Sawad and when he came to visit the woman on Monday morning, she raised an alarm. Locals immediately caught hold of Sawad and handed him over to the police.
