BBMP to Focus on Core Duties as New Entity to Take Charge of City’s Infrastructure Projects
Govt hopes it will end ‘godfather’ syndrome and lead to greater staff efficiency

Local governance will hopefully take a turn for the better if a law to transfer municipal corporation and development authority staff beyond their local jurisdictions comes into force.
The move could put an end to the arbitrary functioning of such employees as well as their links with their political godfathers in the government.
As per details accessed by TheBengaluruLive, at a recent meeting chaired by the Urban Development Department’s Principal Secretary Tushar Girinath, which was also attended by MLA Tanveer Sait.
The BBMP Commissioner, BDA directors and the Urban Development Department’s Undersecretary-2 have been tasked with vetting the draft bill.
At the January 19 meeting, it was opined that transfer of staff to other corporations and development authorities would help in making good policies and lead to improved staff efficiency.
In the current set-up, employees of various corporations, including BBMP, and various development authorities are transferred within their jurisdictions. By doing away with the jurisdiction rule, the state government hopes to, among other things, bring about more efficiency in the execution of government projects.
