Bengaluru: Home, IT and BT and e-Governance Minister Priyank Kharge on Wednesday welcomed the setting up of an academic ‘AI First Factory’ by Dayananda Sagar University in collaboration with NVIDIA, which the university describes as the first of its kind in India. He said it will be a significant contribution to the growth of Karnataka’s AI and deep-tech sector.
The Minister met Dr Premchandra Sagar, Pro-Chancellor of Dayananda Sagar University and Vice-Chairman of Dayananda Sagar Institutions, and learnt about the advanced AI infrastructure recently set up at the university.
Dr Sagar said the AI First Factory has a high-performance computing system with 20 NVIDIA DGX B200 supercomputing nodes. It lets students learn advanced AI on real technology infrastructure rather than only from textbooks, and gain practical experience in developing, training and deploying large-scale AI systems.
Kharge said it is heartening that Karnataka’s universities are investing in cutting-edge AI capabilities. When educational institutions build such infrastructure, the state’s youth get better opportunities to gain global-level expertise, he said.
Collaboration among universities, research institutions and industry is necessary to strengthen Karnataka’s AI and deep-tech ecosystem, he said, and he would explore the possibility of working with Dayananda Sagar University in this regard.
Dr Avinash Menon Rajendran, Director of the state Electronics, IT and Biotechnology Department and Managing Director of KITS, was present.
