Bengaluru: Cricket fans, especially Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) supporters, have been warned to stay alert after a fake IPL ticket scam surfaced in the city, duping several people through fraudulent links and websites.
Cyber fraudsters created fake profiles and websites claiming to offer IPL tickets for free or at discounted rates. These links, disguised as âIPL Dhamaka Saleâ or similar offers, were circulated online, luring unsuspecting users.
Police said that when users clicked on these links and attempted to book tickets, money was debited from their accounts without any ticket being issued. The scam came to light after multiple victims approached Hulimavu Police Station with complaints of financial loss.
According to officials, the fake websites were designed to closely resemble the official RCB ticketing platform. With high demand for IPL 2026 matches in Bengaluru, especially upcoming games at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, many fans fell prey to the scam while trying to secure tickets.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Electronic City Sub-Division) Narayan has urged the public not to click on suspicious links or rely on unofficial ticketing sources. He emphasized that tickets are sold only through official platforms and that most matches are already sold out.
In one instance, victims reported losing amounts such as âč7,196, âč11,991, and âč7,497. Police suspect that the total fraud amount could be significantly higher as more transactions are being traced.
A cyber fraud case has been registered, and steps have been taken to block the fake accounts and websites. Police have also written to social media platforms like Facebook to disable such fraudulent content.
Authorities have appealed to the public to verify official websites before making any payments and to avoid clicking on links shared via unknown sources.
Investigation is ongoing to identify the culprits behind the scam and prevent further incidents.
