Bengaluru: In a major crackdown following mobile thefts during an IPL match, Cubbon Park Police have arrested 13 individuals, including 9 juveniles, and recovered 75 stolen mobile phones from the accused.
The incident occurred on March 28, 2026, during the Tata IPL match between RCB and SRH at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where several spectators reported theft of their mobile phones.
Acting on complaints, police initially detained one accused and three juveniles on March 31, 2026. During interrogation, 21 mobile phones of various brands were recovered. The accused was produced before the court and taken into police custody for further investigation.
The three juveniles were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board and were subsequently sent to a government observation home as per court orders.
Further investigation led to the apprehension of six more juveniles on April 2, 2026, who were also produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to observation homes.
On April 3, 2026, police interrogated four more accused persons who were in custody. Based on their disclosures, an additional 70 stolen mobile phones along with 5 phones used in the crime were recovered, taking the total recovery to 75 mobile phones.
Three accused were produced before the court on April 3, 2026, and have been remanded to seven days of police custody. Investigation in the case is ongoing.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Central Division DCP Akshay M. Hake, IPS, and under the leadership of Cubbon Park Sub-Division ACP Dr. Priyadarshini Ishwar Sanikoppa, along with Inspector Devendrappa K.S. and their team, who successfully cracked the case and apprehended the accused.
