V. Somanna Urges Amit Shah to Expedite ST Status for Karnataka’s Kadugolla Community
New Delhi/Bengaluru: Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna on Thursday said he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and sought his intervention to expedite the proposal for including Karnataka’s Kadugolla community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.
In a post on X, Somanna said he requested the Home Minister to facilitate the early consideration of the proposal by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
According to Somanna, the proposal has already been examined by the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI) and forwarded to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs following the representation he had submitted to Amit Shah on March 25, 2026.
He said granting Scheduled Tribe status to the Kadugolla community would significantly contribute to the social, educational and economic empowerment of the community, which he described as one of the most marginalised communities in Karnataka.
Somanna also shared a copy of his letter addressed to the Union Home Minister requesting suitable directions for the inclusion of the Kadugolla community in the Scheduled Tribe category for Karnataka.
