Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Likely in Coastal, South Interior Karnataka Today; IMD Issues Weather Alert

Bengaluru, August 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka on Friday (August 7), while issuing a heavy rain warning for the same regions on August 8.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru, Dakshina Kannada district is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by sustained winds of 30-40 kmph on Friday. Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts are also likely to experience heavy rainfall with similar wind speeds.

In South Interior Karnataka, Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Kodagu is likely to witness heavy rain. Light to moderate rain with sustained winds of 30-40 kmph has been forecast at many places over Ballari, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.

For North Interior Karnataka, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by 40-50 kmph winds is likely at many places over Belagavi, Gadag, Dharwad and Haveri, while light rain is expected in Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir districts.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts on August 8, with Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru also likely to receive heavy rain.

From August 9 to August 13, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue across most parts of Coastal Karnataka, while several districts in North and South Interior Karnataka are likely to receive light to moderate showers.

For Bengaluru city, the IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain in some areas over the next 24 to 48 hours. Sustained winds of 30-40 kmph are likely, with the maximum temperature around 28°C and the minimum temperature around 21°C.

The IMD said no hailstorm or landslide warnings have been issued for Karnataka as of Friday afternoon.
