New Delhi/Bengaluru: Bengaluru Rural MP Dr C.N. Manjunath on Wednesday said Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has approved the proposal to acquire land for the proposed Wayside Amenities (Rest Area) along the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway at a cost of ₹2 crore.

In a post on X, Dr Manjunath said he met Gadkari in New Delhi and urged the early implementation of three key projects along the expressway—Channapatna Toys Park, Silk Museum and Wayside Amenities.

According to the MP, following his request, the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru South identified around 8.5 acres of land for the proposed rest area and submitted the proposal to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Dr Manjunath said Gadkari approved the proposal for land acquisition based on the Deputy Commissioner’s recommendation and directed officials to expedite both the acquisition process and implementation of the project.

He said the proposed Channapatna Toys Park would strengthen the globally recognised wooden toy industry by supporting traditional artisans, generating employment and enhancing Channapatna’s identity as the “Gombe Naadu.”

The proposed Silk Museum, he said, would showcase Karnataka’s rich sericulture heritage while benefiting silk farmers, reelers and other stakeholders from Ramanagara and neighbouring taluks. The museum is also expected to promote tourism and add value to the silk industry.

The proposed Wayside Amenities will provide modern facilities for commuters travelling on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway, improving road safety, convenience and travel comfort, he added.

Dr Manjunath said the three projects would help preserve Karnataka’s cultural heritage, strengthen local livelihoods, promote tourism and create new economic opportunities for the region. He also thanked Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for his support towards the proposed developmental initiatives.
