C.T. Ravi seeks CBI, ED probe into alleged illegal fund transfers through fake accounts opened in names of poor people
Bengaluru, July 15: BJP Karnataka leader and MLC C.T. Ravi on Wednesday said he had submitted a memorandum to the Governor seeking a CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into an alleged fraud involving fake bank accounts opened in the names of poor people in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Hubballi for transfer of money.
Speaking to the media after submitting the memorandum to the Governor, Ravi, a former national general secretary of the BJP, alleged that Aadhaar cards of poor people were collected and new SIM cards were purchased in their names. He further alleged that, without giving any documents to the account holders and in collusion with bank officials, transactions worth crores of rupees were carried out in their names.
He said complaints in this regard had been registered in Hubballi and Shivamogga, and claimed that transactions worth Rs 87 crore had been confirmed.
Ravi said three persons had been arrested in connection with the case. He alleged that in Chikkamagaluru, accounts were opened in the names of civic workers, hamalis, painters and daily wage labourers, and that transactions worth lakhs of rupees were carried out without their knowledge.
He said the source of the money needed to be traced. According to Ravi, it is being said that the money could be linked to tax evasion, online betting and funds illegally transferred from accounts through “digital arrest”.
He further alleged that the kingpins behind the illegal operation were operating from Dubai. Ravi claimed there was a conspiracy to suppress the matter and said the transactions involved inter-state, inter-district and international links.
He said cases related to the matter had been registered in Telangana and Chhattisgarh, and that a complaint had also been registered from Bahrain. In view of this, he demanded that the matter be investigated by the ED and the CBI and that the alleged kingpins behind the operation be arrested.
