Bengaluru South City Corporation, RV Educational Institutions Launch Vision 2030 Student Internship Initiative
Bengaluru, July 18: Bengaluru South City Corporation has initiated the next phase of its collaboration with RV Educational Institutions under its Vision 2030 programme by constituting a team of students, domain experts and civic officials to develop scientific solutions to urban challenges through student-led innovation.
A meeting chaired by Commissioner K.N. Ramesh was held with experts and heads of various departments of RV Educational Institutions following the memorandum of understanding on student internships between the civic body and the institution.
The meeting resolved to engage college students in the corporation’s administration through an internship programme focused on key development sectors. Zonal Chief Engineers have been designated as nodal officers for the initiative, with responsibilities assigned across different sectors.
The Chief Engineer of Jayanagar Zone-1 has been appointed the principal nodal officer for the internship programme and given charge of urban design. The Chief Engineer of Bommanahalli Zone-2 will oversee the environment and climate studies division. Commissioner K.N. Ramesh will supervise the information technology and data analytics division, while Additional Commissioner Dr. Naveen Kumar Raju will head the health services division. The Commissioner said the remaining list of officers would be shared through an official WhatsApp group to be created shortly.
Two internship models have been designed. One will focus on in-depth research into urban issues and preparation of reports, while the other will involve developing practical, field-level implementation models. The Commissioner directed that students from semesters other than the final year of engineering be engaged so that academic schedules and examinations are not affected.
The proposed study areas include solid waste management and planning to convert educational institution campuses into zero-waste zones, technology-driven monitoring through cameras mounted on vehicles to assess road conditions and advertisements, artificial intelligence-based property tax assessment, and digital mapping of ward-level civic amenities to prepare data-driven reports.
Students may also contribute to improving on-street parking management in Jayanagar, HSR Layout and Koramangala, making roads more pedestrian-friendly and preparing the Vision 2030 concept document.
Other focus areas include improving lake water quality, plantation drives for a greener South Bengaluru, use of sensor data for flood management in stormwater drains, technical analysis of public grievances, voter data consolidation, and study of legal department cases.
The Commissioner also suggested special teacher training and assessment to improve results in corporation schools and upgrade them to the standards of private institutions. Students may also study organised management of vegetable vending zones and zone-specific civic programmes.
The coming week has been designated as an orientation period during which experts will study the corporation’s functioning and classify immediate and long-term projects. Separate email IDs and WhatsApp groups will be created for each zone to facilitate coordination. Experts and students interested in contributing to the corporation’s development have been invited to participate in discussions.
Additional Commissioner Dr. Naveen Kumar Raju, Chief Engineers Basavaraj R. Kabade and K.V. Ravi, heads of various departments of RV Educational Institutions, experts and corporation officials attended the meeting.
