Bengaluru Central City Corporation Cracks Down on Monsoon Preparedness, Orders Fast-Track Desilting and Road Works
Bengaluru, May 19: Ahead of the monsoon season, Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan has issued strict instructions to Engineering Department officials to expedite drain desilting works, footpath development and road infrastructure projects being carried out under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Scheme and Special Development Programme.
The Commissioner directed officials to ensure that all ongoing civic works across the six Assembly constituencies under the jurisdiction of Bengaluru Central City Corporation are completed on priority to prevent flooding and inconvenience to the public during heavy rains.
Civic Works Underway Across Six Assembly Constituencies
The ongoing infrastructure and maintenance works are being undertaken in:
- C.V. Raman Nagar
- Shantinagar
- Chikkapete
- Chamarajapete
- Gandhinagar
- Shivajinagar
For the past one month, large-scale drain desilting, footpath development and civic infrastructure improvement works have been in progress under various special development schemes.

Strict Instructions on Drain Desilting
Commissioner Rajendra Cholan instructed Engineering officials across all six divisions to immediately accelerate drain desilting operations to ensure smooth rainwater flow during the monsoon season.
Officials were directed to:
- Remove accumulated silt and waste from stormwater drains
- Clean roadside drainage channels
- Prevent overflow and waterlogging in residential areas
- Ensure uninterrupted flow of rainwater during heavy rainfall
The move aims to prevent flooding of nearby houses and surrounding areas caused by clogged stormwater drains and drainage channels.
Immediate Action Ordered on Fallen Trees and Branches
In view of possible heavy rain and strong winds during the monsoon, the Commissioner also directed Forest Department officials to remain fully prepared for emergency response operations.
Officials were instructed to:
- Immediately remove fallen trees and branches
- Deploy skilled personnel for emergency response
- Keep required machinery and equipment ready at all times
The Corporation has been asked to ensure quick response mechanisms to minimise traffic disruption and public inconvenience during adverse weather conditions.

Road Development and Pothole Prevention
Commissioner Rajendra Cholan also directed officials to speed up ongoing road asphalting works and complete cement concrete (CC) road projects at the earliest.
The Commissioner stressed the need to provide citizens with durable and high-quality road infrastructure before the onset of heavy rains.
Officials were specifically instructed to:
- Prevent formation of potholes during monsoon
- Carry out immediate pothole repairs wherever required
- Closely monitor road conditions across all divisions
Focus on Monsoon Readiness
The Commissioner emphasised that all civic departments must work in close coordination to strengthen Bengaluru’s monsoon preparedness and reduce public inconvenience during the rainy season.
The directions are part of a larger effort by Bengaluru Central City Corporation to improve stormwater management, road infrastructure and emergency response systems ahead of expected heavy rainfall in the city.
