Bengaluru, May 19: With growing public concern over traffic congestion and delays in key infrastructure projects in North Bengaluru, Yelahanka MLA S.R. Vishwanath has directed officials to complete the long-pending Yelahanka Flyover project at the earliest and develop it into a model infrastructure corridor for the city.

The direction was issued during a high-level progress review meeting on various development works related to Yelahanka Assembly Constituency held at Yelahanka Mini Vidhana Soudha under the joint chairmanship of MLA S.R. Vishwanath and Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar.

The meeting reviewed several ongoing civic and infrastructure projects, including roads, flyovers, underpasses, lake development, streetlights, water supply, sanitation and public amenities across the constituency.

MLA Pushes for Early Completion of Yelahanka Flyover

Reviewing the status of the Yelahanka Flyover project, MLA S.R. Vishwanath instructed officials to expedite pending works and ensure the flyover is completed without further delay.

The MLA also directed officials to install high-quality lighting systems and develop the flyover as a model urban infrastructure project for Bengaluru.

The Yelahanka Flyover has been one of the key infrastructure projects aimed at easing severe traffic congestion in North Bengaluru, especially in rapidly developing residential and commercial zones around Yelahanka, Jakkur and the airport corridor.

New Road Planned Between Yelahanka Railway Station and Jakkur

The meeting also focused on future traffic management requirements in view of the proposed expansion of Bengaluru’s largest railway terminal in the Yelahanka region.

MLA S.R. Vishwanath instructed officials to initiate construction of a new road connecting Yelahanka Railway Station and Jakkur to improve connectivity and reduce traffic bottlenecks.

He stated that wider roads, additional underpasses and new flyovers would become essential as the area witnesses rapid urban growth and increased vehicular movement.

Warning Against Unauthorized Construction

During the meeting, officials were instructed not to permit any building construction without proper plan approval.

The MLA also directed authorities to ensure that all works undertaken by private institutions are carried out strictly within legal guidelines and approved norms.

Focus on Public Amenities and Civic Infrastructure

The review meeting also discussed maintenance and upgrading of:

  • Government buildings
  • Community halls
  • Swimming pools
  • Public toilets
  • Other civic infrastructure facilities

Officials were instructed to improve maintenance standards and ensure better public accessibility.

Model Food Street Planned in Yelahanka

As part of urban development initiatives, the MLA proposed development of a dedicated food street and food court consisting of 51 shops.

Officials were instructed to design a model food street equipped with:

  • Multiple food outlets
  • Proper sanitation
  • Public seating
  • Parking facilities
  • Waste management systems

Lake and Park Development Reviewed

MLA S.R. Vishwanath appreciated the maintenance work carried out at Allalasandra Lake and reviewed the development status of other lakes, parks and public spaces in the constituency.

He assured officials that necessary funding support would be provided for civic beautification and lake rejuvenation works wherever required.

Energy-Efficient Streetlighting System Planned

Reviewing streetlight maintenance works, the MLA directed officials to ensure all streetlights remain functional and to implement modern energy-efficient lighting systems across the constituency.

Coordination Ordered in BWSSB Road-Cutting Works

The MLA also reviewed BWSSB road-cutting works and instructed departments to work in close coordination to minimise inconvenience to the public during utility-related infrastructure works.

Strict Action Against Improper Waste Disposal

Expressing concern over meat and fish waste being dumped in vacant sites by certain establishments, the MLA instructed officials to take strict action against violators.

He warned that trade licenses of shops violating waste disposal norms could be cancelled if necessary.

Footpaths Must Remain Free for Public Use

The MLA observed that several shopkeepers were encroaching on footpaths for parking and commercial activities, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.

Officials were instructed to immediately clear such encroachments and ensure footpaths remain accessible for public use.

Crackdown on Illegal Posters and Banners

Officials were also directed to remove unauthorized posters and banners installed outside designated areas in violation of GBA rules.

The MLA specifically instructed authorities to initiate strict action against illegal advertisements put up by PG accommodations, shops and private establishments.

“Resolve Problems Before Public Complaints Arise”

MLA S.R. Vishwanath instructed all departments to proactively inspect localities and resolve civic issues before complaints are raised by residents.

He called upon all civic agencies to work together to transform Yelahanka into one of Bengaluru’s cleanest and best-planned constituencies.

BNCC Assures Full Support

Speaking during the meeting, BNCC Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar assured that the corporation would provide full support for all developmental initiatives in Yelahanka constituency.

He instructed officials from all departments to work efficiently and in coordination to ensure that citizens do not face inconvenience due to civic or infrastructure issues.

Additional Commissioner (Development) R. Latha, Additional Commissioner (Revenue In-Charge) Pallavi, Chief Engineer Yamuna, Executive Engineers and officials from Forest, Health, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, BWSSB, BESCOM and Traffic Police departments were present at the meeting.
