After Years in Legal Limbo, 134 Seized Vehicles Finally Leave Jayanagar Police Station, Freeing Roads and Footpaths
Bengaluru: For residents and pedestrians around Jayanagar Police Station, 134 vehicles that had remained parked in and around the station because of court cases and other legal proceedings had become more than seized property — they had turned into a daily obstacle on footpaths and roads.
That long-standing pile-up was finally cleared on Thursday as Bengaluru South City Corporation and the Police Department jointly shifted the vehicles to an identified location near Ragigudda Metro Station.
The operation, launched by Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, removed 117 two-wheelers, seven cars, nine autorickshaws and one luggage carrier from the police station premises, adjoining footpaths and roadside areas.
Corporation Commissioner K.N. Ramesh said the vehicles were relocated on the minister’s directions as part of an effort to improve everyday movement for motorists and pedestrians within the Bengaluru South City Corporation limits.
For people using the area, the issue was not merely about the appearance of abandoned or seized vehicles. According to the Corporation, the accumulation had encroached upon road space, contributed to traffic congestion and made pedestrian movement difficult.
Residents and public representatives had repeatedly sought a solution, but moving vehicles held in connection with legal proceedings required more than a routine civic clearance operation.
The Corporation said the exercise was carried out after two months of continuous meetings and completion of the necessary legal procedures, highlighting the administrative challenge involved in reclaiming public space occupied by case-related vehicles.
The 134 vehicles have now been shifted to an alternative site identified near Ragigudda Metro Station, clearing space around the police station for regular public use.
The operation also illustrates a wider everyday civic problem: vehicles seized in criminal or other legal cases can remain parked around police facilities for prolonged periods while proceedings continue, leaving surrounding public spaces to absorb the impact.
MLA C.K. Ramamurthy, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy, Corporation Chief Engineer Basavaraj Kabade and other officials were present during the operation.
