Bengaluru: Six wards in the Bengaluru Central City Corporation were taken up for clean-up and repair works on Sunday as the Ward One campaign began in the corporation’s limits, with around 200 personnel, 33 tractors, 17 tippers and 8 JCBs deployed.
The wards selected, one from each division, were:
- C.V. Raman Nagar division – New Thippasandra
- Shantinagar division – Ashok Nagar
- Gandhinagar division – Nehru Nagar
- Shivajinagar division – Vasanth Nagar
- Chamarajpet division – Chamarajpet
- Chickpet division – Sunkenahalli
Work in these wards included removing roadside debris and unauthorised banners, filling potholes, repairing footpaths and installing kerbs, clearing footpath encroachments, removing unauthorised OFC cables and cables hanging from trees, cleaning roadside drains, repairing streetlights, cutting dry and hazardous branches, clearing waste from road medians and spraying mosquito-control chemicals. Abandoned vehicles were identified and notices affixed on them.
Greater Bengaluru Authority Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao and Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G. inaugurated the campaign on M.G. Road. The Ward One campaign is being carried out across GBA limits on the direction of Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
Inspecting the works, Jagadish G. directed officials to keep footpaths clean and repaired, remove encroachments, remove long-abandoned vehicles from roadsides and public places, clean identified garbage black spots and monitor them so waste does not pile up again. He also asked them to fill potholes immediately, take up asphalting where needed while maintaining quality, replace damaged dustbins and remove unauthorised cables along roads and footpaths.
The corporation’s engineering, forest, health and solid waste management departments worked with BESCOM, BWSSB and the traffic police, the corporation said. Around 200 volunteers, including from Malabar Gold & Diamonds and various NGOs, took part.
