Belagavi/Bengaluru: Karnataka has 37,48,700 homeless individuals, according to updated housing survey data presented in the Legislative Council by Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Replying to a starred question raised by member Shivakumar K, the Minister said the figures are based on surveys conducted under Central guidelines — the 2018 rural housing/plotless survey and the 2017 urban houseless survey under PMAY (Urban).

The consolidated survey identified 37,48,766 houseless beneficiaries, of whom 17,31,633 are plotless and 20,17,133 are without houses, he said.

For the financial year 2024–25, the State has set a target of 7,38,881 houses across various housing schemes. Of these, 3,27,747 houses have been approved, while 4,11,134 proposals are still pending approval, the Minister informed the House.

Zameer Ahmed Khan also said the government is considering raising housing subsidies—
• ₹4 lakh for SC/ST beneficiaries
• ₹3.5 lakh for general category beneficiaries
This enhancement is being evaluated to address rising construction costs and affordability concerns, he added.
