Bengaluru: The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services Commissioner has warned the Davangere district surgeon to strengthen equipment monitoring and hospital safety after a reported fire at Chigateri Government District Hospital.
The letter, dated November 5, 2026, and bearing reference HFWS/FW/19/2025 (E-2223240), refers to a fire reported on June 30 between approximately 8.30 am and 8.45 am in operation theatre No. 5 used by the ENT and ophthalmology departments.
Equipment link described as a possibility
The letter says the report placed before the department described the use of unsuitable or faulty equipment as a possible cause. It does not record that explanation as a final determination of the fire’s cause.
Monitoring and repairs ordered
Hospital staff have been directed to monitor equipment and overall safety, stop using defective or unsuitable equipment, report technical problems and arrange inspection and repairs.
The warning also says responsibility may be fixed and disciplinary action considered if such an incident recurs.
