Vinay Kulkarni Among 16 Convicts Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Yogesh Gowda Murder Case
Bengaluru: In a major verdict, a special court has sentenced former minister Vinay Kulkarni and 15 others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Yogesh Gowda. The judgment was delivered by Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat of the Special Court for Peopleâs Representatives.
The court held all 16 accused guilty in the high-profile murder case and awarded life imprisonment, rejecting pleas for leniency made by Vinay Kulkarni. The accused had requested a reduced sentence, citing personal and family circumstances, including responsibilities toward his children, but the court ruled that the gravity of the crime warranted strict punishment.
The case pertains to the murder of Yogesh Gowda, a rising political figure and Zilla Panchayat member, whose killing had triggered widespread attention and investigation.
Investigators, including officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), had gathered substantial evidence over the course of the probe. The prosecution also relied on key witness testimonies, including an approver, which played a crucial role in establishing the involvement of the accused.
The court noted that despite attempts to influence or derail the investigation, the evidence presented clearly established the role of Vinay Kulkarni and the other accused in the crime.
Earlier, the court had already convicted 17 accused in the case. Following detailed hearings on sentencing, life imprisonment has now been awarded to 16 of them.
Vinay Kulkarni has been in judicial custody since 2025 in connection with the case. Officials stated that the verdict reinforces the principle that the law treats all individuals equally and that those found guilty of serious crimes will face stringent punishment.
Further legal proceedings in the matter are expected as per due process.
